Every piece of wood has its own appearance, its own character and its own vitality. Its natural characteristics, and unique markings are therefore always to be considered. For example, dark spots on the rainbow are caused by mineral deposits. This means that if the tree had grown further, a branch would have developed at this point.
Black stripes are also something completely natural. This is the so-called pith tube or "heart of the tree". It differs from the surrounding wood by the darker colour and structure. When working on the wood, it can become completely or partially visible. This feature is part of the natural appearance of the wood. Therefore, these are not defects for Grimm's, but quality features of a natural product and as such are desired and welcome by them. We love this uniqueness of wood!
These are great, and provide quite a fun challenge even for adults! They are also perfect in open ended creations!

Perfect for my toddler and preschooler
My children use these pretty regularly and for several months now, they're surprisingly strong enough not to get broken by my 4 & 2 year olds. I bought to help with mable runs and they work very well!
The box came damaged, however the company graciously gave me a credit in return, if I remember correctly. The customer service was quick in replying.

Fun to get out, hard to put away
We already have slats so I was planning to skip these but I really wanted something small enough to make ball runs with so I went for it. They are great for that, and we've enjoyed using them as other things as well. They look beautiful when cleaned up and put away in their box, but that means a) sorting them by color and b) carefully putting them in the box--every one has to be in the perfect position or they don't fit. That's obvious from the photo, but I think they get played with a little less because they are tougher to put away.
